Daniel Obajtek has commented on the internal dispute within Law and Justice (PiS), which ended with dozens of MPs associated with Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus association leaving the party. The former CEO of Orlen, who initially aligned himself with Morawiecki but ultimately remained in Law and Justice (PiS), appealed to party members to put an end to internal infighting.
In a social media post, Obajtek addressed party activists directly.
“Dear Colleagues: everyone is following their own path, and each of us should work to broaden our electoral base. Let us not fight among ourselves, because Donald Tusk is our enemy and the enemy of the country,” he wrote.
The former Orlen CEO called for the internal conflict to be de-escalated and urged politicians to focus on shared goals.
“I encourage everyone to remain calm and engage in grassroots work for the good of the country’s future,” he added.
In the same post, Obajtek also referred to his upcoming legal case. He invited supporters to attend a gathering outside the Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office on July 28. According to Obajtek, prosecutors intend to bring charges against him over his decision to withdraw the weekly magazine Nie from sale. He argued that the magazine’s cover was blasphemous and said his decision had been aimed at defending religious beliefs.
On Thursday, the deadline expired for the party leadership’s ultimatum requiring MPs to declare that they were not members of any associations, under the threat of expulsion from Law and Justice (PiS). On Friday, Jarosław Kaczyński announced that dozens of MPs, after failing to submit the required declarations, “decided to leave the ranks of Law and Justice (PiS)”. The decision is expected to be formally approved by the party’s Political Committee.
