“I contributed more than 100,000 zlotys from my own money to the work of the Work for Poland Team, while the party contributed only several thousand zlotys. Let’s not pretend that I was receiving any money. I tried to support President Karol Nawrocki’s campaign with my private funds after the National Electoral Commission (PKW) unfairly stripped Law and Justice (PiS) of its public subsidy, in order to increase his chances of victory,” former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said today on TV Republika.
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, leader of the Development Plus Association, addressed allegations during an interview with TV Republika that he had received preferential treatment among the deputy leaders of Law and Justice (PiS) and had access to a substantial budget of his own.
Morawiecki dismissed the claims as “lies repeated in various places.” He added that, according to the rumors, the alleged funding was supposed to have come from the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR Party) – led by the former Polish prime minister – as well as from the Work for Poland Team.
“Within the ECR Party, full authority over the funds allocated to the Polish delegation rests with Jarosław Kaczyński, as the leader of the party. The second person overseeing a significant portion of the budget is Patryk Jaki, the leader of Sovereign Poland (SP). The third person, who has some influence but consults everything with the chairman, is the head of the Polish delegation, Adam Bielan. I did not have any ECR Party funds at my own disposal,” he said.
Law and Justice (PiS) is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR Party).
Responding further, Morawiecki said:
“Please show me any funds that were used to finance large rallies for me. The only thing you will find is Members of the European Parliament who had their own budgets, and that is when you saw the ECR banner. I did not receive any money from the ECR Party,” he added.
He also said that he had personally financed both the activities of the Work for Poland Team and Karol Nawrocki’s presidential campaign.
“As for the Work for Poland Team, I contributed more than 100,000 zlotys from my own money to its work, while the party contributed only several thousand zlotys. Let’s not pretend that I was receiving any money.
