Former deputy justice minister and Law and Justice (PiS) MP Michał Wójcik stated firmly that he sees no reason why Zbigniew Ziobro should give up his parliamentary immunity after the prosecutor’s request to have it lifted. At the same time, the politician admitted he does not know where the former Minister of Justice is currently staying.
Wójcik’s remarks came in response to the motion submitted to the Sejm on Tuesday by Waldemar Żurek, requesting the lifting of Ziobro’s immunity as well as his detention and arrest. At a press conference, the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General, prosecutor Anna Adamiak, announced that a 158-page motion from the prosecutor’s office had been delivered to the Speaker of the Sejm.
“I don’t see a reason”
Former deputy justice minister Michał Wójcik was asked whether Zbigniew Ziobro would waive his parliamentary immunity. “I have no knowledge on that, but I can say from my side that I don’t see any reason for him to give up his immunity,” the PiS politician said.
In his view, Ziobro is “being hunted by an entire group” of people who are acting dishonestly. When pressed on whether it wouldn’t simply be easier for Ziobro to defend his position in court, Wójcik replied that no, it would not. He stated that “what is happening right now is crying out to heaven for vengeance.”
“They will burn in political hell for what they are doing right now. Bringing 26 charges, including such charges as misappropriation — that absolutely does not apply here. Another accusation, that 14 million złoty went to renovate the headquarters of the National Prosecutor’s Office — there’s nothing to discuss there, there is a specific legal provision that allows for this,” Wójcik said.
According to the PiS politician, the entire case is about “humiliating and destroying” the former head of the Ministry of Justice. Wójcik was also asked whether he knows what Ziobro’s plans are. “I have no knowledge, I don’t know where Minister Ziobro is,” he concluded.
