“Everything I did was based on the law and statutes passed by parliament and signed by the president. They are not changing laws, they are breaking them and installing their own people, committing crimes. Today we are dealing with a criminal gang,” said Law and Justice (PiS) MP Zbigniew Ziobro, who has been granted political asylum in Hungary.
Ziobro on Tusk’s government: We are dealing with a criminal gang
Former justice minister in the PiS government, Zbigniew Ziobro, has been granted political asylum in Hungary. In a statement published on the X platform, the politician indicated that “he chooses to fight political banditry and lawlessness” and that “he is resisting the advancing dictatorship” in Poland. Bartosz Lewandowski, Ziobro’s defense lawyer, also commented on the matter.
“Political asylum was granted to him by the Hungarian government pursuant to the 2007 Act on the Right to Asylum, in connection with actions taken by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and services subordinate to the government, which resulted in a series of actions bearing the hallmarks of politically motivated political repression (e.g., the invalidation of passports previously announced by members of the government, deprivation of means of subsistence as a result of asset seizures),” the lawyer informed.
The PiS MP gave an interview today on RMF FM, where he was asked about the charges the prosecution intends to bring against him.
“Everything I did was based on the law and statutes passed by parliament and signed by the president. They are not changing laws, they are breaking them and installing their own people, committing crimes. Today we are dealing with a criminal gang,” he stated.
He added that he had been invited to Hungary at a time when “he did not know that this criminal group would take such actions against him.”
“I was here at a press conference, and that was when I learned that they were taking illegal, criminal actions against me, fabricating charges,” he reported.
During the interview, the politician also addressed statements by prominent representatives of the December 13 Coalition, who call him a “coward.”
“Cowards are those who break the rules of fair play as defined in the Polish criminal codes and, using criminal methods, attempt to carry out revenge against me by organizing a witch-hunt and a manhunt. There is no courage on their part, it is simply banditry, the use of force and violence that they currently hold in their hands. My role is precisely to confront this bravely and wisely, in such a way as to prevent them from carrying out this scenario,” he declared.
He also pointed out that “even under martial law, when it was formally introduced, they would not be able to do what they are doing, they would not be able to illegally take over the prosecution service and use it to discontinue cases against thieves and criminals from their own ranks, such as Giertych.”
“I assert that martial law in Poland would not allow this authority to illegally take over the prosecution service and the media, or to torpedo the work of the Constitutional Tribunal. I am saying that if martial law were formally introduced in Poland today – may it never happen – no government would be able to do what Donald Tusk’s government is doing,” he said.
The PiS MP announced that he does not intend to resign his parliamentary mandate.
“I will work hard in Budapest, meet regularly with journalists and the media. I will also launch my YouTube channel to speak the truth and expose the lies of this authority. I will do everything to bring about the fall of this government,” he declared.
