“I’m on the anti-PiS side, but I wouldn’t want a situation in which Mr. Zbigniew Ziobro ended up in custody, his health deteriorated there and he died. Such a scenario could happen,” declared Piotr Bakun from Nowa Fala on the program “Miłosz Kłeczek. Wysokie napięcie” on TV Republika. The politician emphasized that, in his opinion, Ziobro should be allowed to answer charges while at liberty.
Motion to arrest Ziobro
On Tuesday Waldemar Żurek, the current Minister of Justice and Attorney General, submitted to the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, a request for consent to bring Ziobro to criminal responsibility, as well as for his detention and arrest. The spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office, prosecutor Anna Adamiak, announced at a press conference that a 158-page prosecutorial motion had been forwarded to the Marshal of the Sejm.
The matter is said to concern alleged irregularities in the spending of money from the Justice Fund. According to the Attorney General’s spokesperson, while he was head of the Ministry of Justice, Ziobro established and led an organized criminal group that appropriated more than PLN 150 million from that fund.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the Rules Committee, at which MPs will consider the motion to lift the immunity of former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, has been convened for 6 November.
“The public has the impression that this is all planned”
Politicians discussed the coalition’s actions of 13 December against Zbigniew Ziobro on the program “Miłosz Kłeczek. Wysokie napięcie” on TV Republika.
Why was there an operation to change presidents and vice-presidents and then that regulation concerning the elimination of random case assignment? We live in a state in which there is a regime. The last two years were subordinated to building it. First of all, it was the illegally taken over prosecutor’s office, simply attacked. Then there was the matter concerning the courts — presidents, vice-presidents. Those positions were also attacked. Then the rules regarding random assignment of cases — recalled Michał Wójcik, a PiS MP.
The politician stressed that “today, if someone thinks there will be a fair trial, a fair proceeding, they are very deeply naïve.”
Piotr Bakun of Nowa Fala, in turn, pointed out that “when the prosecutor’s office files motions for provisional arrest, statistically in 90 percent of cases the courts agree to them.” He also emphasized that due to the cancer illness that the former Minister of Justice is struggling with, he should answer from freedom.
“Despite my negative attitude toward the minister, I believe there should be humanity. I know that to help Ziobro get out of this disease I would like to look him straight in the eye and tell him: ‘You see, it’s worth making a change now.’ Obviously, he will be a minister if he lives long enough. If I know that a person is sick and I know that I have many things I want to extract from him, then I think I would not tell him those things so as not to worsen his condition out of common human decency. I’m on the anti-PiS side, but I would not want a situation in which Mr. Zbigniew Ziobro ended up in custody, his health deteriorated there and he died. Such a scenario could happen,” he announced.
He added that “if a person is ill, let them recover, get better, let it take a year, two or three, and only then can they be attacked.”
“Mr. Zbigniew Ziobro can just as well answer from freedom. Nothing will happen if he answers from liberty. The public has the impression that this is all planned and staged,” he declared.
