“Independent judge” Markiewicz received money from Żurek. Here’s how much he earned on the codification commission

The Veritas Et Ius Association has published a breakdown of the remuneration paid to members of three codification commissions operating under the Ministry of Justice headed by Waldemar Żurek. One of the highest-paid members was Krystian Markiewicz, a candidate for the Constitutional Tribunal, who received PLN 240,000 between 2024 and the end of June 2026. Moreover, although Markiewicz was removed from his position as chairman of the Codification Commission on the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, he remains a member of the commission.

The Veritas Et Ius Association published a statement summarizing the costs of the three codification commissions: the Codification Commission on the Judiciary and the Public Prosecution Service, the Criminal Law Codification Commission, and the Civil Law Codification Commission.

According to the association, from 2024 through the end of June 2026, members of these bodies received a combined total of nearly PLN 4.8 million. During that period, the commissions held 121 meetings.

As the association pointed out, this means that the state commission responsible for preparing the future model of the judiciary included both the former and the current president of the same influential judges’ association.

To date, that commission has cost taxpayers PLN 1,540,200.13 while holding 36 meetings. However, it remains unknown how many of those meetings were attended by each individual member of the commission.
