Exactly one year ago, on May 28, 2025, just days before the second round of the presidential election, the spokesperson for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzyński, published a post that remains to this day one of the strongest pieces of evidence of the political use of information originating from special services against Karol Nawrocki – then a candidate for President of Poland.
Jacek Dobrzyński – spokesperson for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services – in his post did not refer to media reports or rumors – he revealed the existence of specific materials gathered by the Internal Security Agency (ABW). He stated that as early as 2021, ABW had conducted activities concerning the method and sources of financing the purchase of an apartment by Karol Nawrocki from Mr. Jerzy. He also indicated that the basis for recommendations in the proceedings were actions carried out by officers of the ABW delegation in Gdańsk.
The most striking part of the post, however, came later. Dobrzyński wrote that the officer analyzing the files had issued a negative recommendation regarding Nawrocki, but the then head of ABW, Krzysztof Wacławek – having “full knowledge” – decided to grant security clearance.
The post by the former member of the communist-era paramilitary ORMO was a public disclosure of fragments of a vetting procedure conducted by special services against a candidate for the office of President of Poland.
Prof. Cenckiewicz: all this information is classified
It is precisely to this that Sławomir Cenckiewicz returned today.
The former head of the National Security Bureau recalled that Dobrzyński’s post was the first official confirmation that information originating from ABW proceedings against Nawrocki had been circulating during the election campaign. Cenckiewicz pointed out that the spokesperson for the coordinator of special services spoke not only about the materials themselves, but also about officers’ recommendations, operational activities, and knowledge contained in the case files.
“It should be emphasized that all information originating from vetting procedures (and this is exactly what the spokesperson referred to) is classified. All of it – including information on actions taken, recommendations, the position of the services, resulting disputes, and the role of specific individuals,” Cenckiewicz stressed.
The former head of the National Security Bureau therefore asks directly:
- how did communication, correspondence, and information exchange in this matter look within ABW (Gdańsk – Headquarters)?
- how did information from the ABW vetting procedure reach the spokesperson of the Minister Coordinator of Special Services and the coordinator himself?
- what was the form of this information – was it transmitted orally or in writing?
- was the borrowing or review of materials from the ABW vetting procedure concerning Nawrocki from 2021 and later recorded in registry devices (in Gdańsk and Warsaw)?
- were any notes produced – in the Gdańsk ABW and the agency’s Headquarters – officially registered?
These questions are not accidental. In the final days of the presidential campaign, media outlets favorable to Donald Tusk’s camp published a series of materials targeting Karol Nawrocki. The sources of this information were never officially disclosed. Meanwhile, Dobrzyński’s post confirmed that ABW materials concerning exactly the same issues existed in parallel.
“In the entire matter of using special services for political purposes after December 13, 2023, this testimony from a year ago – published on X – is among the most important pieces of evidence in the case! It is also a task for the future!” Cenckiewicz concluded.
