Joint Polish-German Patrol? Border Check Reveals Only German Officers in the Car

German police were checked at the border crossing in Gubin. […] A patrol car marked as a “joint Polish-German patrol” was stopped. It turned out that it was occupied solely by two officers from the Bundespolizei, reports Janusz Życzkowski, a journalist from Telewizja Republika, on X. He also shared a video.

For the past several months, the presence of German police vehicles has raised concerns among residents of western Poland. As early as February this year, reports surfaced explaining the legal basis for German police activity on Polish territory.

“The Lubusz Police officers closely cooperate with German police, for example, through joint patrols in Gubin/Guben, cross-border pursuits, or within the Polish-German Center for Border, Police, and Customs Cooperation in Świecko,” the Polish police stated at the time.

At the beginning of July, in response to an inquiry by Aleksandra Fedorska, the German police said:

“Border controls are carried out in a coordinated manner by the Polish Border Guard and the Federal Police, ensuring the interests of both parties. Please understand that the Federal Police does not comment on the specific details of bilateral coordination.”

However, a situation last week appears to require clarification. A German police car was checked at the Gubin border crossing.

“A patrol car marked as a ‘joint Polish-German patrol’ was stopped. It turned out that it was being driven by two Bundespolizei officers,”
reported Janusz Życzkowski on X.

Fedorska commented on the video, pointing out that joint patrols were suspended when the border checks were introduced.
