President Karol Nawrocki exercised the right of pardon for the first time, granting it to three people. At the same time, he refused to pardon another five. Civic Platform (KO) politician Dariusz Joński was so eager to attack the president that he published a post which ended up embarrassing himself. “Maybe an inspection, Sherlock,” mocked MP Janusz Cieszyński.
As the president’s spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz announced on platform X, by decisions dated 2 February President Karol Nawrocki exercised the right of pardon with respect to three individuals.
“In making these decisions, the President of the Republic of Poland was guided by humanitarian considerations, positive opinions from the courts, as well as motions from the Prosecutor General requesting the exercise of the right of pardon,” he indicated.
One of the individuals pardoned by the president had been convicted of the offences of “fraud, causing damage to economic transactions on a large scale, and harming creditors.” The statement added that the president exercised the right of pardon by conditionally suspending the execution of the imposed custodial sentence and placing the convicted person under the supervision of a probation officer during a designated probation period.
KO politician Dariusz Joński attempted to attack the president over this very pardon, but he forgot one important detail.
“So here we go… The person for whom Nawrocki exercised the right of pardon today had been convicted of an offence under Article 286 § 1 of the Criminal Code, Article 296 § 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code, and Article 301 § 1 of the Criminal Code (fraud, causing damage to economic transactions on a large scale, harming creditors),” the politician wrote on platform X.
However, Joński failed to read that the motions for a pardon had been submitted by… the Prosecutor General.
“‘The Prosecutor General applied for the exercise of the right of pardon.’ I wonder who that was, Mr. Dariusz? Mr. Bodnar? Mr. Żurek? Maybe an inspection, Sherlock,” replied PiS politician Janusz Cieszyński.
