Kaczyński After Czarzasty’s Election as Speaker. First Comment Published

“That is pure communism. This is a communist Sejm,” said PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, assessing the atmosphere in the Sejm during the session. He also commented on the election of former Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR) member Włodzimierz Czarzasty as the second-highest official in the state.

Immediately after the vote in which Włodzimierz Czarzasty was elected Speaker of the Sejm, the media asked the PiS chairman about this choice. When asked why he left the plenary hall during the session, he replied that he could not listen to absurd accusations directed at his party. “That is pure communism. This is a communist Sejm,” he said, evaluating the atmosphere in the chamber. He referred to the speech of one MP who shifted responsibility for the takeover of public media… onto Law and Justice (PiS).

“Something else…”

During the media conversation, he also responded to the accusations of one journalist who suggested that some people affiliated with PiS had also been members of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPR) in the past. He reminded that 3 million citizens had been members of the PZPR, with the highest proportion among people with higher education.

“It is one thing to be a PZPR member, and quite another to be an activist who joined in 1983. That was the most difficult time after December 13, 1981. Back then, such a decision meant supporting the internal occupation of Poland carried out by Polish hands on Russian orders,” he explained. The PiS chairman recalled that these were the years preceded by the deployment of troops and tanks on the streets, as well as constant patrols – the “occupational attributes” of the communist authorities.

“Such a decision shows a lack of any moral principles, not to mention patriotism. This man’s later career, including everything connected to the Rywin scandal, indicates that if there is any reason not to elect someone from this Sejm as Speaker, it is precisely Mr. Czarzasty,” Kaczyński concluded.
