“This is an undertaking entangled – mainly due to the current organizational structure and ownership situation – in a vast number of interests. It’s 6 percent of GDP, which means significant money and the interests that come with it,” said Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of Law and Justice (PiS), about the planned healthcare reform.
During his speech opening the Law and Justice (PiS) convention Thinking Poland, Jarosław Kaczyński, the party’s president, stated that a comprehensive reform of the healthcare system is necessary.
“This is an undertaking entangled – mainly due to the current organizational structure and ownership situation – in a vast number of interests. It’s 6 percent of GDP, which means significant money and the interests that come with it. In many places in Poland, it’s also a question of employment, which has always been important, because [county hospitals] are often the largest workplaces in the entire county,” said Kaczyński.
He added that a similar situation exists in Western Europe and the United States.
“We are dealing with a network of various interests – those of people working in healthcare, doctors, nurses, but also the interests of local governments, lobbying groups, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. If one wants to have a serious discussion about these issues, one must face the truth, and that’s not easy,” emphasized the Law and Justice (PiS) leader.
“It’s necessary to address the issue of vested interests, to untangle it, look at it realistically, and on that basis prepare a very serious reform,” he added.
