MP Sebastian Kaleta has submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Justice, seeking to determine whether Sławomir Nowak and his legal representatives had sent letters to the prosecution concerning prosecutor Jan Drelewski. In its reply, however, the Ministry went straight to the issue of… the prosecutor’s dismissal from delegation. “The decision of the Prosecutor General of 24 February 2026 regarding the dismissal of prosecutor Jerzy [!] Drelewski from delegation to the National Prosecutor’s Office was not influenced by any external entities,” wrote Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Myrcha.
Prosecutor Jan Drelewski was the author of the indictment against, among others, Sławomir Nowak, and the previous Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, had praised him for his professionalism.
However, Minister Waldemar Żurek decided to recall him from his delegation to the Mazovian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption, and a disciplinary spokesperson initiated proceedings that could result in disciplinary charges.
At the beginning of March, prosecutor Drelewski received the decision of the Minister of Justice.
“In fact, I do not even know who recalled me from the delegation. Was it Waldemar Żurek privately? The Prosecutor General or the Minister of Justice? This decision does not make it clear. I can only guess. In any case, I believe that none of these individuals has statutory authority to recall me from delegation, but I will pursue this matter through legal means,” he said in an interview with niezalezna.pl.
Earlier, the “Polish thread” in the case of Sławomir Nowak had been discontinued, and the current leadership of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw publicly criticized the actions of prosecutor Drelewski, who had prepared the indictment.
A puzzling response from the Ministry
In connection with what he described as repressive actions taken against prosecutor Drelewski, MP Sebastian Kaleta (Law and Justice (PiS)) submitted a parliamentary inquiry to Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek regarding the investigator’s situation.
Kaleta asked:
Whether Sławomir Nowak or his legal representatives had submitted letters concerning prosecutor Jan Drelewski to the leadership of the Ministry of Justice or the National Prosecutor’s Office? If so, what requests were formulated in those letters?
How did the Ministry respond?
“Instead of answering briefly with ‘YES’ or ‘NO’, [the Ministry of Justice] starts to evade, conceal the truth, and respond to a question that I… never asked,” Kaleta pointed out.
In response to this specific question, the letter signed by Deputy Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha stated:
“The decision of the Prosecutor General of 24 February 2026 regarding the dismissal of prosecutor Jerzy [!] Drelewski from delegation to the National Prosecutor’s Office was not influenced by any external entities.”
“I asked about the FACT of whether letters were submitted by a politician suspected of corruption, and they respond about the ‘motives behind the decision’! This is a classic and exceptionally clumsy dodge. This way of addressing the question strongly supports the media version: pressure from Sławomir Nowak may indeed have taken place and led to direct reprisals against the prosecutor who had the courage to prosecute him!” said the Law and Justice (PiS) MP.
Kaleta declared that he “will not allow the matter to be swept under the rug” and announced that he had submitted another inquiry demanding a precise answer to his question.
