Today, Karol Nawrocki, the president-elect, met with the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia. The meeting lasted about an hour.
It began in the Speaker’s office on Thursday, shortly before 1 p.m., and lasted approximately an hour. Hołownia had already announced in June that he had invited Nawrocki to the Sejm for a conversation ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for August 6. During a press conference on Tuesday, the Speaker stated that he wanted to discuss the details of Nawrocki’s future cooperation with Parliament.
Speaking to journalists shortly before 2 p.m., Karol Nawrocki said that “the meeting concerned three main issues — and it was a very successful meeting with Speaker Hołownia.”
“We spoke, of course, about August 6, the swearing-in, about what will happen on August 6, when I officially become the President of the Republic of Poland. It also concerned my legislative initiatives — as you know, this will be an active presidency. The initiatives will be submitted to the Speaker, to the Polish Sejm. The discussion also touched on a matter of great interest to me — the new media law, which I hope to work on together with the Speaker and the entire Polish Parliament as the new president,” the president-elect stated.
He emphasized that as early as August, he will begin submitting the first legislative proposals, launching a months-long cycle of initiatives.
Hołownia has convened the National Assembly for August 6 at 10 a.m., during which Nawrocki will take the presidential oath. At 4:30 p.m., on Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, the newly sworn-in president is expected to assume command of the Armed Forces.
