A reinforced vest saved the life of a police officer who became the target of a knife-wielding attacker in the northern part of Dublin. A new video has surfaced online, showing the moment of the assault and the confrontation between the attacker and the officers. The assailant was 23-year-old Abdullah Khan.
The incident occurred around 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, on Capel Street in northern Dublin. The perpetrator, 23-year-old Abdullah Khan, attacked the officer with a knife in broad daylight.
Another police officer pushed the attacker away, after which both officers unsuccessfully attempted to detain the knifeman. It was only with the help of a passerby that the officers managed to restrain the young man.
The officer was taken to the hospital but was discharged later the same day.
Khan was charged with assaulting a police officer and possession of a knife in a public place. During the court hearing, he made no statement and did not apply for bail; he remained silent throughout the proceedings.
