Kosiniak-Kamysz Attacks President Nawrocki: “One Post, Two Lies”

– President Nawrocki is late again. Effectiveness is measured by actions, not by the number of words and decibels – wrote Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on X, referring to President Nawrocki’s letter to Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the EU–Mercosur agreement. The leader of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) received a strong response from Law and Justice (PiS) MP Anna Gembicka. – Mr Prime Minister, you are lying again. The European Parliament requested an opinion from the CJEU, not filed a complaint! It is alarming that the Deputy Prime Minister does not understand the difference or its consequences – she stressed.

President’s special letter to the prime minister on the EU–Mercosur agreement

President of Poland Karol Nawrocki sent a letter today to Donald Tusk regarding what he described as the harmful EU–Mercosur agreement.

“I am sending Prime Minister Donald Tusk a special letter demanding the immediate filing of a complaint against the European Union’s agreement with Mercosur countries to the Court of Justice of the European Union. The government promised this. To this day, it has not fulfilled that promise. Rural areas cannot wait any longer. I am attaching a ready draft of such a complaint to the letter. Everything is prepared. All that is needed is action. Every possible path and legal option must be used to stop the Mercosur agreement,” the head of state announced.

Kosiniak-Kamysz: “Late again.” He gets a response

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister in Tusk’s government, commented on the president’s statement in a post on X:

“President Nawrocki is late again. Thanks to PSL Members of the European Parliament, the agreement with Mercosur countries has already been referred to the CJEU, and a bill protecting the agricultural functions of rural areas is being processed by the government. Effectiveness is measured by actions, not by the number of words and decibels,” the politician said.

Numerous comments appeared under his post. PiS MP Anna Gembicka responded:

“Mr Prime Minister, you are lying again. The European Parliament requested an opinion from the CJEU, not filed a complaint!” She added that “it is alarming that the Deputy Prime Minister does not distinguish between the two and does not understand the consequences.”

“You have once again been outplayed by Tusk, who clearly stated that there will be no complaint. If you do not file a complaint and simultaneously request the suspension of the agreement, Mercosur products will start flowing into our market from May 1. As for the bill – it has not even been adopted by the government yet, even though last August Krajewski said it would soon be submitted to the Sejm. The President’s draft is already in the Sejm – at the next sitting we can pass it and provide real help to Polish farmers,” Gembicka added.

PiS MP Krzysztof Ciecióra also joined the discussion:

“President Nawrocki’s bill is already in the Sejm, and yours is not. You have not filed a complaint regarding Mercosur. One post and as many as two lies – very disappointing,” the opposition politician emphasized.

Wave of critical comments

There were many more critical remarks directed at Kosiniak-Kamysz. Selected comments include:

• “This post is an embarrassment for Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz. The European Parliament submitted a request for an opinion on the compliance of the Mercosur agreement with the treaties. An action for annulment of the Council’s decision of January 9 is an entirely different legal path! Despite Minister Stefan Krajewski’s announcements about filing a complaint, no action has been taken to this day, and at the end of March Prime Minister Donald Tusk openly stated that the government does not intend to do so. If the state of knowledge and awareness of Polish agriculture is at the level represented by Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, it is hard to predict any future for him. The Mercosur agreement will be applied provisionally from May 1, 2026, before it formally enters into force. There is still time to file a complaint with the CJEU,”
• “The leader of ZSL blatantly lies. The Tusk school,”
• “How can you lie like this?”
• “Why didn’t the government refer the agreement to the CJEU, but MEPs did?”
• “Wait a second – Minister Krajewski is also, if I’m not mistaken, your colleague from neo-PSL. And he promised that Poland would independently challenge the Mercosur agreement, which, in his view, should block its implementation.”
