Half a million zlotys from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) went to Civic Platform councilor Izabela Piasecka, who is to use the funds to build a “relaxation zone” at her privately owned holiday resort. Nearly the same amount was granted to the ex-wife of a Civic Platform politician from Wrocław, to upgrade her private café business. Another half a million went to the wife of Senator Beniamin Godyla for a spa area in their hotel. These are yet more examples of the squandering of public funds allocated to Poland under the KPO.
On the KPO’s official website, a map has been published showing businesses that received grants. And so it began—since morning, media outlets have been publishing details of scandalous cases of public money spending. Relatives and friends of Civic Platform politicians have been awarded hundreds of thousands of zlotys for projects such as purchasing a yacht, expanding a private restaurant, building a spa or solarium, or renovating a swingers’ club.
Further examples of such “investments” can be found all over Poland. Civic Coalition councilor from Augustów, Izabela Piasecka, received 540,000 zlotys to build a “relaxation zone” at her private “Krechowiak” resort.
Wrocław journalist Marcin Torz also recalled that last year he had noticed a grant of nearly half a million zlotys awarded to the ex-wife of a Civic Platform politician, the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Jolanta Jurkowlaniec received 419,000 zlotys to improve operations at her restaurant.
No doubt, as in the case of Councilor Piasecka, the size of the grant and the Civic Platform connection are purely coincidental…
And that’s not all. Half a million zlotys was allocated for a spa area at the hotel of Ewa Godyla, wife of Civic Coalition Senator Beniamin Godyla.
“The son of multimillionaire and Civic Platform donor Ryszard Wójcik, who ran the restaurant ***** *** in the center of Opole, gets 428,000 zlotys to expand into catering,” reads a post by MP Janusz Kowalski.
