Famed boxer Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk has been removed from the upcoming FAME MMA event in Warsaw. The decision by the FAME MMA federation stems from Włodarczyk’s failure to attend a pre-fight press conference, signaling a breach of professional conduct.
Włodarczyk, a 42-year-old former world boxing champion, was set to feature prominently at the gala scheduled at PGE National Stadium. However, the federation’s decision casts a shadow over his participation in future events as well, citing his absence at the press conference as a “disrespect to fans, the opponent, and fellow fighters,” according to an official statement.
The boxer defended his absence by stating logistical issues related to his training camp’s location, expressing reluctance to travel back and forth in the days leading up to the fight. This incident isn’t Włodarczyk’s first brush with controversy. His reaction during a promotional program for the gala escalated when interrupted by fellow boxer Artur Szpilka. Faced with critical comments from Szpilka, Włodarczyk chose to abruptly leave the studio.
Włodarczyk’s turbulent past includes a hospitalization in 2011 due to an overdose of antidepressants and a five-month prison sentence three years ago for violating a court-imposed driving ban. These incidents paint a complex picture of a sports figure struggling with personal and professional challenges.
The FAME MMA federation’s firm stance on professionalism and respect highlights the growing expectations on athletes to maintain decorum, both inside and outside the ring. As the event approaches, the absence of “Diablo” will undoubtedly be felt, leaving fans and organizers grappling with the ramifications of his actions.
