Activists from Last Generation, known among other things for blocking streets, have announced that they are ending their current form of activity. At the same time, they declare that their “resistance” will continue. They also express regret that, due to their unlawful actions, they are facing court proceedings and being fined heavily.
Last Generation is a group of radical climate activists who have repeatedly disrupted daily life for residents, including in Warsaw. They organized street blockades that caused major traffic congestion and engaged in acts of property damage.
“Some face the loss of their freedom”
“We are now putting the glue back into our pockets and the vests into the closet. But this is not the end. The cost of the success we achieved together is ongoing court cases. For speaking the truth about the climate catastrophe, for demanding social justice, people are facing fines reaching tens of thousands of złoty. Some even face the loss of their freedom. We will stand in solidarity with those facing repression,” Last Generation wrote on Facebook.
The activists added that “the campaign will continue to support individuals through legal proceedings and help them cover basic living expenses, especially when they are struggling with fines.”
“After exceeding 1.5°C, there is no turning back”
The end of Last Generation does not mean the end of resistance. “After exceeding 1.5°C, there is no turning back — climate collapse has become a reality, and unstable natural forces pose a threat to us all. The political elites responsible for this collapse are only accelerating the process: they violate human rights, start wars from which they profit, thereby exposing our dependence on fossil fuels. Nothing will stop this except a Revolution. We have proven that resistance works — we are certain it will return (in new forms), in the name of the fight for humanity. We are beginning a process of reflection and preparing a strategy for action in an increasingly unstable world. We are all the Last Generation,” the statement reads.
