Environmental activists from the organization Last Generation once again disrupted traffic for drivers on Friday morning. This time, they are blocking the S8 expressway in the direction of Poznań. As expected, they have proudly shared their actions on social media.
Another operation by Last Generation began several weeks ago. Environmental activists from this organization—classified as a terrorist group in Germany—announced that if the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, did not fulfill their demands by May 4th, they would proceed to block bridges in Warsaw the following day. And indeed, on May 5th—the day that the national secondary school-leaving exams began—several of Warsaw’s bridges were blocked.
In brief: Rafał Trzaskowski received a written list of demands from one of the climate activists in Toruń. These demands called for support of affordable and accessible transportation for residents of small towns and rural areas in Poland. However, the list did not end there. It also included a deadline of May 20th for arranging a meeting between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Last Generation, followed by the complete reallocation of funds designated for the construction of expressways and highways toward regional and local railway and bus connections. Finally, the activists demanded the introduction of a nationwide monthly pass for regional public transport priced at 50 PLN.
As a result, on May 5th, key bridges in the Polish capital—including the Śląsko-Dąbrowski, Świętokrzyski, and Poniatowski bridges—were blockaded.
They Werę Blocking the S8
This Friday marks yet another episode of what has been termed the “terrorization” of drivers. Namely, Last Generation has decided to target the S8 expressway in the direction of Poznań. Furthermore, the environmental activists themselves have publicly boasted about their actions online.
