Prime Minister Donald Tusk is constantly trying to provide the public with as much information as possible that diverts attention from the real problems. Unfortunately, this does not serve Polish society, said the Head of the Cabinet of the President of Poland, Paweł Szefernaker, commenting on the leak of information about the letter sent by Donald Trump to Karol Nawrocki. In his view, the matter shows the government’s bad intentions toward the head of state.
U.S. leader Donald Trump addressed a letter to Polish President Karol Nawrocki, which was sent to Poland via diplomatic mail. However, before it even reached the Presidential Chancellery, pro-government media were already reporting on its contents.
On Wednesday evening, Paweł Szefernaker, Head of the President’s Cabinet, commented on the matter on Telewizja Republika. He stressed at the outset that the correspondence was of a courteous nature, a thank-you for the talks held during Nawrocki’s visit to New York.
“The letter also points to good relations between the presidents, but it is an absolute scandal that those who govern today—who also held senior positions in embassies during PO’s rule—first inform the public that the letter is reaching the president through them. This is really very unserious,” he cautioned.
As he put it, “the fish rots from the head.” — If Donald Tusk, as prime minister, governs today through Twitter, really ruling by means of statements—very often informing the public several times a day on various issues, providing unverified information that is circulated even though there is no justification—then it ends up that subordinate officials, such as embassy staff, also inform the public in the same way it was done at night, he said, adding:
“This only shows the government’s bad intentions toward the president.”
Did government representatives have a purpose in this?
According to Szefernaker, the ruling coalition has a problem. “They are not implementing the program they ran on in the elections, life for Poles is getting worse, the government is facing more and more problems every day. This coalition has no program, no vision, no governing philosophy, and tries to cover it up with various kinds of information like this,” he said.
“It works in their favor today, because if the media and public opinion are occupied with the fact that a letter is going from the embassy in Washington to the Presidential Palace, then they are not being asked why they are failing to deliver, how they are unable to govern, how ineptly they govern. Therefore, Civic Platform will continue trying to manage communication in this way,” he assessed.
According to the presidential minister, the ruling party is also trying to govern through fear—in connection with the events on Poland’s eastern border. He also mentioned the prime minister’s post about drones in Warsaw. “Prime Minister Donald Tusk is constantly trying to provide the public with as much information as possible that works to divert attention from the real problems. Unfortunately, this does not serve Polish society,” he stated.
