In 2023, Polish men lived an average of 74.7 years, and women 82 years. This marks an increase from 2022 by 1.3 and 0.9 years, respectively. Compared to 1990, life expectancy for men increased by 8.5 years and for women by 6.8 years. However, Poland still lags behind many European countries.
Comparative European Rankings
Polish men ranked 28th out of 34 European countries with a life expectancy of 73.4 years in 2023. Only a few countries, including Bulgaria and Hungary, had lower averages. Polish women fared slightly better, ranking 24th with an average life expectancy of 81.1 years.
Urban vs. Rural Life Expectancy
Men living in Polish cities had a higher life expectancy (75.0 years) than those in rural areas (74.2 years). Conversely, women in rural areas outlived their urban counterparts, with a slight difference of 0.1 years.
