Lubusz. Sulechów amends resolution on migrants. The result of halted EU funds

The blackmail against the Sulechów municipality (Lubusz region) has proven effective. The Sulechów city council has withdrawn its resolution concerning illegal migration. The reason was the freezing of EU funds earmarked for the expansion and renovation of an educational facility in the town of Kije, within the Sulechów municipality, as well as additional funding for local investments. These decisions were made by the regional government office led by the Civic Platform. The case was reported by gazetazielonogorska.pl.

We reported on the issue a few days ago. The situation escalated when Sulechów‘s town hall received a notification from the Marshal’s Office that funds for investments in Kije would be suspended until the matter was investigated. The matter concerned the city council’s adoption of an appeal-formulated as a resolution-regarding illegal immigration.

In that resolution, councilors expressed their support for Prime Minister Tusk’s government, which opposes the implementation of the Migration Pact. The councilors based their decision on information widely available online and commonly published by Donald Tusk’s government. Let us recall that this same government had assured the public that the Migration Pact would not be implemented.

However, it turns out that Tusk has no real say in the matter, and the councilors relied on provisions that do not exist in the law. As the Marshal’s Office now informs, in response to a letter and inquiry from a local newspaper, EU institutions strictly require the acceptance of all arrangements established in 2021 and enforced in 2024 regarding migration policy. This simply means that if any local government intends to block the acceptance of migrants in its territory, it will not receive EU funds.

Sulechów’s authorities have given in to this pressure, but it is unclear whether the problems will end here. The next step from the Marshal’s Office might be an order to place illegal migrants within the Sulechów municipality-under threat of further loss of EU funding. It appears that the biggest beneficiaries will be the most tightly bound by this particular form of coercion, which will force them to accept illegal immigrants. And “engineers” and “doctors” from Africa may be placed, for example, in the newly constructed educational facility in Kije
