Presidential minister Karol Rabenda pointed out on Telewizja Republika that the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro by U.S. authorities is a warning to all dictators. “It was a demonstration of American strength and effectiveness. Donald Trump has made it clear that he will not tolerate such dictatorships and such a style of governance in the Western Hemisphere,” Rabenda emphasized.
Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro was apprehended by U.S. authorities and transported, along with his wife, to the United States, where he is to face charges before a New York court. He is currently being held in custody.
The U.S. operation in Caracas was discussed by guests of Miłosz Kłeczek on Telewizja Republika.
“There has been a problem with Nicolás Maduro for years, just as with the entire regime, which was not democratic in Venezuela. With each successive election it evolved toward a dictatorship, and civil rights have effectively been absent there for decades. As for the position of the United States, it has been made quite clear in this new strategy that the administration of Donald Trump will not tolerate such situations. We know there is also a serious thread involving support for drug cartels, and formally he was apprehended by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the agency responsible for combating drug trafficking—and that is also an argument that exists internally in American politics,” said Presidential Minister Karol Rabenda.
As he added, it was also “a demonstration of American strength and effectiveness. Donald Trump has clearly stated that he will not tolerate such dictatorships and such a manner of governing in the Western Hemisphere.”
“This is also a warning to all dictators who think there will be no consequences for their violations of the law, persecution of the opposition, and their actions,” he stressed.
“It must be remembered that Venezuela, on that side of the hemisphere, was a major supporter of China and Russia, and this is also not insignificant in the European context,” Rabenda said.
At the same time, Rabenda recalled President Trump’s words that the operation in Venezuela does not constitute the overthrow of the regime.
“President Trump clearly stated that he expects solutions to come from the Venezuelan side that will lead to repairing the internal situation. It is clear that the United States is determined to restore order there,” he added.
