‘Many Years in Prison’: Sakiewicz on Consequences of Taking SAFE Loan Despite Presidential Veto

“Taking the SAFE loan after the president’s veto is illegal. It will mean not only many years in prison, but also that they will have to repay it from their own personal assets,” said Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor and president of TV Republika.

SAFE Bill Vetoed by the President

President Karol Nawrocki announced that he had vetoed the bill concerning the EU SAFE loan. Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted quickly to the head of state’s decision. The head of government announced that he would convene an “extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers” on Friday at 9 a.m., during which the government presented its position on the presidential veto. The head of the Presidential Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, took part in the meeting.

Adam Borowski, head of the Warsaw “Gazeta Polska” Club, called for a spontaneous demonstration in defense of the president against what he described as the “industry of contempt.” The demonstration is scheduled to take place today at 4 p.m. in front of the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.

Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor and president of TV Republika, commented on the station’s broadcast about the wave of hate directed at President Karol Nawrocki following his decision to veto the SAFE bill.

“We are dealing with another ‘industry of contempt.’ We remember what the incitement by Donald Tusk against Lech Kaczyński led to. It appears that today the vital interests of those who installed Tusk here have been violated,”

he said.

He recalled that “the SAFE program included funds intended for propaganda, which were probably meant to go to those editorial offices that are now organizing this furious smear campaign.”

“Each of these commentators who are now insulting the president should be asked how much money they were supposed to receive for paving the way for something that was so very harmful to Poland. We are dealing with paid mercenaries. These are not commentators or journalists, but mercenaries whom Germany was supposed to pay with our money. I believe Germany is making a historic mistake. The chasm they are now digging with the hands of traitors, those who have betrayed Poland’s national interests, may become impossible to bridge,”

he emphasized.

In his opinion, “the Polish president must be defended, because the constitution does not provide any real mechanism to protect the president.”

“The ‘industry of contempt’ once led to tragedy. Today, we must mobilize before such a tragedy occurs,” he added.

Asked about the “Plan B” announced by Tusk, he replied:

“It assumes breaking the law. One must remember that if the party signing an agreement lacks the authority to do so, and this can be challenged, the loan may be invalid. All consequences will fall both on the one who grants the loan and on the one who knowingly takes it without authorization.”

“If someone takes an illegal loan at the expense of Polish taxpayers, they will repay it from their own pocket, and there will be no way to evade it. It is illegal. Trying to manipulate the situation is a crime. Taking this loan will mean not only many years in prison, but also that they will have to repay it from their own personal assets,”

he concluded.
