“I have information that the Clifford Chance law firm, where various resolutions were drafted, is shutting down in Poland and will leave only a small representation,” said Law and Justice MP Marek Suski on TV Republika.
According to TV Republika journalists, officers from the Internal Security Agency and the Military Counterintelligence Service are expected to enter the Presidential Palace. “The aim of this operation would be to discredit the head of the National Security Bureau, Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz,” revealed Jarosław Olechowski, head of publishing at TV Republika.
The matter was commented on air by PiS MP Marek Suski.
“Poland will defend itself, and threats of storming the Presidential Chancellery will come to nothing. Today Donald Tusk finds himself in a tragic situation, completely sidelined in international politics. People abroad already understand this. I have information that Clifford Chance, the firm where various resolutions were drafted, is shutting down in Poland, leaving only a small representation,” Suski said.
What do we know about Clifford Chance?
Clifford Chance is a well-known international law firm, whose Warsaw office drew public attention in connection with actions related to TVP in December 2023 and prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek.
In spring 2024, Wirtualna Polska journalist Patryk Słowik reported that motions filed by prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek with the courts—aimed at blocking PiS actions concerning public media—were not prepared within the prosecutor’s office. It is known that such a motion was sent from a post office located just a few dozen meters from the offices of the international law firm Clifford Chance. Moreover, it was scanned on a device not available to the prosecutor’s office but available at Clifford Chance.
“There can be no approval for practices that raise doubts. Such a situation—especially the conduct of a prosecutor, if press reports are confirmed—does not build the authority of the prosecutorial office in the eyes of citizens and does not strengthen citizens’ trust in the state,” commented Przemysław Rosati, president of the Polish Bar Council, at the time on social media, referring to the case of prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek and Clifford Chance.
Clifford Chance has in the past arranged financing for Nord Stream 2. It also cooperated with the Russian government and numerous Russian entities, including financial institutions. As Gazeta Polska revealed, the firm took part in transactions that benefited two Kremlin oligarchs linked to the overhaul of the Tu-154 aircraft before the Smolensk disaster.
