Mass Layoffs in Pomerania: Cable Factory Moves Production to Germany and Romania

The Plati Polska cable factory, located in Kwidzyn, has begun mass layoffs as its Italian owner, Accursia Capital, relocates production to Germany and Romania. Nearly 200 employees in Poland are set to lose their jobs.

To date, 124 workers have already been dismissed, with an additional 60 layoffs planned. The factory, part of a multinational operation, has been a key supplier of cables and components for the automotive, telecommunications, and household appliance sectors for nearly 25 years. It operates within the Kwidzyn Industrial and Technological Park.

The layoffs have sparked controversy as workers allege they have not received legally required severance payments. According to Polish labor laws, employees with more than eight years of service are entitled to severance packages worth up to PLN 13,000. The trade union “Solidarność” has raised the issue with the National Labor Inspectorate, demanding intervention to ensure payments are made.

Local authorities have pledged their support for affected workers and are urging the company to fulfill its obligations. Meanwhile, the County Labor Office in Kwidzyn has registered 40 of the dismissed employees, providing access to unemployment benefits. The office has also organized an informational meeting to assist workers in retraining and finding new jobs.
