Fuel prices at petrol stations are set to rise again. According to Friday’s announcement by the Minister of Energy, from Saturday to Monday drivers will pay a maximum of PLN 6.02 per litre of 95-octane petrol, PLN 6.70 for 98-octane petrol, and PLN 6.17 for diesel. All limits will be higher than those in force on Friday.
On Friday, a litre of 95-octane petrol costs no more than PLN 5.95, 98-octane petrol – PLN 6.65, and diesel – PLN 6.12. On 31 March, the first day of the introduction of maximum prices, a litre of 95-octane petrol cost a maximum of PLN 6.16, 98-octane petrol – PLN 6.76, and diesel – PLN 7.60.
The next announcement by the Minister of Energy regarding maximum fuel prices will be published on Monday and will set prices for Tuesday.
In accordance with the regulations, the Ministry of Energy publishes a daily announcement on working days regarding maximum fuel prices. The maximum price applies from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette (Monitor Polski). If announced before weekends or public holidays, the rate remains in force until the next working day. Selling above the maximum price is punishable by a fine of up to PLN 1 million, and inspections are carried out by the National Revenue Administration.
The maximum price is determined according to a formula that includes the average wholesale fuel price on the domestic market, increased by excise duty, a fuel fee, a sales margin of PLN 0.30 per litre, and VAT.
On 12 June, an amendment to the regulation was published extending the validity of reduced VAT rates on certain fuels. The Ministry of Finance announced last week that there would be no extension of the excise duty reduction on certain fuels. Thus, from 16 to 30 June, apart from the reduced VAT rate from 23% to 8%, maximum prices at petrol stations will apply, which are set daily by the Minister of Energy. In accordance with the law, maximum prices apply for as long as the reduced VAT rates remain in force.
