On Monday, Gazeta Wyborcza, citing information from Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ), reported that despite signals from Kyiv, the president has not decided to visit the Ukrainian capital. The two presidents have not met since August. Marcin Przydacz, head of the Bureau of International Policy at the Chancellery of the President, addressed the issue on TVN24.
Marcin Przydacz said that “if President Zelensky wants to see Karol Nawrocki, nothing stands in the way for him to get on a train and come to Warsaw for a meeting.”
“President Nawrocki always expects something concrete from me when it comes to visits – not just a visit for the sake of a visit – so if I were to somehow advise the Ukrainian side on how to bring about closer contact, I would move these concrete matters forward, for example in the area of historical issues. Then a visit by the head of state should serve as a kind of culmination of a process, not its beginning,” he added.
In a recent interview with Wprost, Nawrocki said that his relations with Zelensky are “appropriate, though not friendly.” He stated, “They are at a level that ensures cooperation between Poland and Ukraine, but I won’t hide that I see many issues quite differently than the President of Ukraine.” As he added, contentious matters such as the law on prosecuting Banderism “are not subjects of our discussions,” he said.
“If President Zelensky or other heads of state are dissatisfied with my actions, they’ll have to deal with it for the next five years,” he added.
