“We have submitted a motion to dismiss Ursula von der Leyen. This Commission should immediately cease its activities,” said Patryk Jaki, MEP and Vice President of Poland’s Law and Justice party (PiS), during a press conference today. “If you’re asking why von der Leyen should be dismissed, the answer is simple – just look at your bills, and you’ll keep seeing her influence in them,” added MEP Jacek Ozdoba.
On July 10, the European Parliament will vote on a motion of no confidence in the European Commission, currently led by Ursula von der Leyen. The motion was submitted by Members of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, which includes PiS MEPs.
During today’s press conference, PiS politicians explained why they believe von der Leyen – and by extension the entire Commission – should be removed from office.
“We submitted a motion to dismiss Ursula von der Leyen. This Commission should immediately stop its work. Just look at what’s happening at the German border. Germany, when carrying out pushbacks, cites the Dublin III Regulation, claiming that Poland was the country of first entry for migrants, and so they send them back to Poland – but they fail to provide sufficient evidence. According to the regulation, Germany is obligated to present proof, and Poland has two months to assess such requests,” said MEP Patryk Jaki.
“We want to remind everyone that one of the reasons EU funds were unfairly blocked for Poland was – according to EU documents – the use of so-called pushbacks. So now the question arises: is there equality between EU countries, or not? If sanctions were applied to Poland, it’s high time they were applied to Germany too. We will raise this issue during the upcoming debate,” emphasized Tobiasz Bocheński.
He added that PiS politicians are in the European Parliament to represent the interests of Polish citizens. In his view, the European Commission is steering the EU toward disaster.
“There are many reasons why we’ve taken this step: the Mercosur agreement, which will destroy Polish agriculture; the ideology of ‘climatism’ in the form of the Green Deal, which will affect every business and household; the unfair and secret negotiations with Ukraine that disadvantage Polish farmers; the application of double standards; illegal immigration; the staggering level of bureaucracy that stifles entrepreneurial spirit. Ursula von der Leyen serves her own political base, Germany’s interests, and is focused on grabbing as much power as possible from member states for the European Commission. Any MEP who votes to keep von der Leyen in office is voting against Poland’s interests,” Bocheński said.
Jacek Ozdoba also explained why von der Leyen should be removed from office.
“She’s in your bills now, and she’ll be there in the future. The EU’s flawed policies directly affect what you pay. ING bank’s estimates show that ETS2 adds over 40 groszy per liter of petrol and 54 groszy per liter of diesel. These are enormous costs we all will bear – and this additional tax is one of von der Leyen’s proposals. Illegal migrants are arriving in Poland, and the Polish state has capitulated. Those who support von der Leyen are responsible for that,” he emphasized.
“This is a historic moment in the current term of the European Parliament. We’ll see clearly who stands on which side of the barricade,” added Waldemar Buda.
