“Mercilessly taking away the last lifeline from the most vulnerable.” PiS MP on the government’s shocking plans

“Officials sitting behind desks in Warsaw are, with a single signature, striking at patients with the most severe, multiple disabilities. The government is pushing completely dependent boys into a virtual system, while at the same time destroying facilities that have been operating exemplary for years,” warned Katarzyna Sójka, a Law and Justice (PiS) MP. The politician was commenting on legal changes that will affect, among others, the Home for Boys in Broniszewice, run by nuns.

Legal changes to hit the Home for Boys in Broniszewice

The government is planning to introduce systemic changes to the care of children with the most severe disabilities. The new regulations will impact the Home for Boys in Broniszewice, a facility that has been operating for 75 years and is run by a religious order.

The nuns issued a special statement emphasizing that, under the proposed framework, their facility—despite decades of experience—will no longer be able to admit new residents in the future. This is to result from the implementation of the so-called deinstitutionalization process, which involves moving away from large care institutions in favor of alternative forms of support.

The sisters pointed out that the existing homes are to be replaced by therapeutic centers which, in their view, may not provide children with the same comprehensive and stable care as the Home for Boys.

Sójka: “Mercilessly taking away the last lifeline from the most vulnerable”

Katarzyna Sójka also addressed the issue in a post published on X.

“Today, coldly and with bureaucratic premeditation, a coalition that smiles so democratically and tolerantly wants to destroy this place! Tusk’s ministry, in the name of its very blind deinstitutionalization, is imposing—among others on the Home for Boys—a ban on admitting new children starting next year,” the politician stated.

She added that the actions of representatives of the December 13 coalition are “completely detached from reality.”

“Officials sitting behind desks in Warsaw are, with a single signature, striking at patients with the most severe, multiple disabilities. The government is pushing completely dependent boys into a virtual system, while at the same time ruining facilities that have been operating exemplary for years. This modern social policy of Civic Coalition is very distressing and impossible to justify. It is a merciless taking away of the last lifeline from the most vulnerable,” she concluded.
