    Estimated reading time: 1 minute

Magda Linette defeated Evgeniya Rodina of Russia 6:3, 6:4 in the second round of the Miami WTA 1000 event. Iga Swiatek, who had to pull out of the competition due to health concerns, is now out of the running.

Linette got off to a fast start in the opening set, taking a 4:0 lead with only one point lost in each of the first three games. She momentarily dropped her serve in the fifth game, but soon had an opportunity to break her opponent’s serve back. Although she was unable to do so, it didn’t matter in the end as she was already in a strong position.

She had to put in more effort for the second game. She had to make up for her mistake of allowing a service game to slip away from her when the score was at 1:3. She was able to break her opponent’s serve quickly, then did it again and finished the match with assurance. She ended up winning the last ten points consecutively!

In the third round, the Pole will face Viktoria Azarenka who defeated Camila Giorgi 6-3, 6-1.

    Magda Linette – Evgeniya Rodina 2-0 (6-3, 6-4)
