Michał Kamiński, a politician from the centrist Third Way alliance, may soon lose his position as Deputy Speaker of the Senate — according to sources close to the Poland 2050 and Polish People’s Party (PSL) coalition, as reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP). The move comes after Kamiński publicly criticized Prime Minister Donald Tusk following Civic Coalition candidate Rafał Trzaskowski’s defeat in the presidential election.
In a Tuesday interview with Polsat News, Kamiński openly questioned Tusk’s leadership, suggesting the prime minister should no longer head the government. “If you’re asking me whether I trust someone who smeared the American president and cannot bring himself to apologize for it, my answer is no,” he stated.
He went on: “Do I trust someone who placed the fate of my coalition and all the values I hold dear in the hands of people I saw jumping at their own funeral on election night?”
Referring to Tusk, Kamiński described him as a man who “did not believe Karol Nawrocki would win […] and called him a pimp,” and who also doubted Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. election, calling him “a KGB agent.”
According to PAP’s sources within Third Way, a likely scenario is that Kamiński will be dismissed from his post as Deputy Speaker of the Senate, with his fierce criticism of Tusk adding fuel to the fire. The sources indicate that Kamiński himself expects to be removed.
Tensions in the Senate Presidium are nothing new. Kamiński previously accused Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska (Civic Coalition) of instructing government drivers to “spy” on him and other Deputy Speakers. Kidawa-Błońska denied the allegations, explaining that the information on absences and illnesses — which Kamiński had cited — was necessary for organizing the drivers’ work. Kamiński ultimately apologized to Kidawa-Błońska for his accusations.
