Migration crisis at the Polish border peaks, and the minister responsible… is in the Himalayas!

Attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus, more migrants being dropped off at the German border – for everyone guarding Poland’s frontiers, May of this year was truly intense. That didn’t stop Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration Maciej Duszczyk (responsible for migration) from taking a few days off to attend a rather unusual conference. The matter was highlighted by Law and Justice MEP Maciej Wąsik.

“May. Migration crisis. Hundreds of attempts per day to breach the border barrier. Germany is pushing migrants across the western border. And what is the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration for migration doing at that time? He goes on an official trip to… Bhutan,” Wąsik wrote on X.

The politician notes that at the height of public outrage over reports of German authorities offloading migrants at the Polish border, Duszczyk traveled to the conference “Labour Mobility in South Asia” in Bhutan.

Duszczyk also spoke as one of the conference speakers. According to Wąsik, he “discussed the perspective of receiving countries, identifying priorities, and building better partnerships to support migrants.”

“Smiling Minister Duszczyk, who opened the conference, was the only EU-level ministerial politician present. He held talks with:

  • the Secretary of Employment of Nepal
  • the Undersecretary of Employment of the Philippines
  • the Secretary of Employment of India
  • representatives of the Bangladeshi government agency responsible for labor export
  • the Moroccan government employment promotion agency
  • the Ministry of Employment of Sri Lanka
  • employment directors from Papua New Guinea, Jamaica, and the Maldives”

– enumerates the PiS MEP.

Duszczyk’s presence was also reported by the Bhutan Times. In several published photos, the Polish deputy minister is seen smiling broadly.
