Monika Stankiewicz has secured a bronze medal at the European U18 Tennis Championships held in Oberpullendorf, Austria. Despite falling short in the semifinals, her strong performance throughout the tournament earned her a spot on the podium. Stankiewicz, seeded fifth, showed her prowess by cruising through the early rounds with ease.
Impressive Performance in Early Rounds
The Polish player dominated her first three matches, losing only three games combined against opponents from Norway, Finland, and Latvia. In the quarterfinals, she faced Russia’s Jekaterina Pereligina, securing a decisive 6-2, 6-4 victory, which guaranteed her at least a bronze medal.
In the semifinals, Stankiewicz faced fourth-seeded Czech, Alona Kovackova. Despite a strong effort, the younger Kovackova proved too challenging, defeating Stankiewicz 6-1, 6-1. However, with no bronze medal match in the tournament, Stankiewicz still took home third place. Reflecting on the result, she expressed satisfaction with her final junior season performance, marking a positive end to her junior career.
This bronze medal caps off a successful season for the Polish player, who also reached the second round at both the junior US Open and French Open, and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
