Morawiecki: Internal rifts ‘confused our voters’ during two years in opposition

“For two years, there was a kind of free-for-all ride over our own activity, over our own achievements. Many people, including some from within Law and Justice itself, were dismantling our legacy, I can put it very bluntly, fouling the very nest we all belonged to,” admitted Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Chairman of Law and Justice, today.

In an interview on Kanał Otwarty, the former prime minister spoke about the internal situation within Law and Justice and the period which, as he argued, had been wasted.

Asked whether he was surprised to learn that shortly after the establishment of the “Rozwój Plus” association, another association was created within PiS, he said:

“No, I wasn’t surprised at all, because I believe it’s a good idea to establish various associations.”

“The vast majority of people do not want to join political parties or engage in strictly political activity, which properly belongs to political parties, but they do want a sense of participation,”

he continued.

Pressed on whether he plans to run in elections under a different formula than Law and Justice, he replied briefly: “I do not plan to.”

He also addressed internal criticism within PiS shortly after the party moved into opposition:

“Some of my colleagues, unfortunately, also from within Law and Justice, joined the chorus of mockers, that comfortable box where one can sit back and say: ‘this was wrong,’ ‘that was wrong,’ ‘and as for the KPO or matters related to Ukraine, we would have handled them differently.’”

“They aligned themselves with the stream of critics regarding the Polish Deal, the Green Deal, without regard for what the truth actually was. Meanwhile, I expect my colleagues within Law and Justice to speak the truth, rather than further stoking a fire that, by the brigand’s right of the opposition, had already been fanned to considerable proportions,”

Morawiecki said.

He continued:

“For two years, there was this unrestrained onslaught against our own activity, against our own achievements. Many people, including some from within Law and Justice, were destroying our legacy; to put it very bluntly, they were fouling the nest we all belonged to.”

“And I believe this deeply confused our voters. It was the primary reason why, over those two years, roughly from the election until early 2026, many voters drifted away. And where did they go? To those who were criticizing us,”

he concluded.
