Withdrawing financial support from PiS is illegal and strikes at the heart of democracy—said former Prime Minister and PiS vice-president Mateusz Morawiecki on Tuesday in Lublin. The National Electoral Commission (PKW) decided that in a letter to Finance Minister Andrzej Domański regarding party subsidies for 2025, the amount allocated to PiS would be reduced by 11 million PLN, and the amount for Konfederacja by 87 thousand PLN. According to PKW, PiS’s subsidy for 2025 should be around 15 million PLN, while Konfederacja’s should be about 8 million PLN.
“This is simply a crime”
When asked to comment on the decision, Mateusz Morawiecki stated that elections are the cornerstone of a democratic system, and for elections to be truly equal and democratic, they must be conducted on a level playing field.
“If, according to the law, several political parties should receive financial support at a certain level, and one party is denied this support, it is a blow to the heart of democracy. It strikes at the very essence and meaning of the democratic system. Depriving us of funds leads to this”—said Morawiecki.
“The PKW, which is dominated by politicians from the current ruling coalition, is simply committing a crime by withholding the rightful funds”—he added.
In his opinion, the government should focus on inflation and “not steal money from political parties, effectively depriving them of equal opportunities and striking at the heart of democracy.” He thanked Poles who donate various amounts and “help Karol Nawrocki achieve electoral victory.”
Morawiecki, along with a group of PiS MPs and activists, visited a market in Lublin’s Bronowice district on Tuesday morning, where he spoke with vendors and residents. From Lublin, he traveled to meet with voters in the region, including Ryk, Puławy, and Bychawa.
