“President Karol Nawrocki is pursuing a real and effective policy of reaching out to our allies,” former prime minister and Law and Justice (PiS) MP Mateusz Morawiecki said. He appealed to government representatives not to “ruin” what the president had achieved regarding the presence of American troops in Poland. The Presidential Palace described Washington’s announcement as proof of the effectiveness of efforts to strengthen the Polish-American alliance.
US President Donald Trump announced on the social media platform Truth Social that he had decided to send an “additional” 5,000 troops to Poland. He stated that the decision had been made “based on” his relationship with President Nawrocki, whom, as he recalled, he had supported ahead of the 2025 election.
During Friday’s press conference, Morawiecki said that President Nawrocki “is conducting real and effective diplomacy in reaching our allies, and in fact it is he who has secured the possibility of sending 5,000 more American troops to Poland.”
“I have an appeal to those currently in power: listen, don’t ruin what President Nawrocki has achieved today; don’t make any more statements; it would be better not to act, not to say anything now, because you can only spoil it,”
the former prime minister said.
President Karol Nawrocki thanked the US president for his “friendship toward Poland and for the decisions whose practical dimension we can clearly see today.” He declared that he stands, and will continue to stand guard over the Polish-American alliance.
Head of the Presidential Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki said that the US president’s announcement demonstrates “the effectiveness of responsible policy,” adding that friendship with the United States and President Nawrocki’s good relationship with President Trump make Poland safer. Head of the National Security Bureau (BBN) Bartosz Grodecki described the move as a major success for the president and the result of consistently building transatlantic relations.
