“When arguments run out, a festival of fake news, insinuations and political mud begins. In recent days, it has become clear that some people simply cannot handle the pressure,” former Prime Minister and leader of the Rozwój Plus Association, Mateusz Morawiecki, wrote on social media.
Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced on Friday that the group of MPs associated with Mateusz Morawiecki would no longer operate within Law and Justice (PiS). He added that the party’s Political Committee would “take note of this fact” at its meeting next Tuesday.
In recent days, Morawiecki and his political allies have faced numerous accusations from figures within Law and Justice(PiS), including allegations related to the purchase of F-35 fighter jets, the introduction of the Family 500+ social benefits program, and claims about a supposed “separate budget” within the party. The former prime minister addressed these allegations in a lengthy interview with TV Republika.
Earlier today, Jacek Kurski, the former CEO of Polish Television (TVP), launched a series of attacks against Morawiecki during an appearance on TV Republika. Among other claims, he alleged that Morawiecki had cooperated with Donald Tusk and suggested that leading politicians from the governing coalition had inspired the current tensions on the right.
At the same time, Morawiecki published a post on social media.
“When arguments run out, a festival of fake news, insinuations and political mud begins. In recent days, it has become clear that some people simply cannot handle the pressure. This is not how you build a broad and victorious centre-right movement. Lies have short legs,” Morawiecki wrote.
Tensions between the rival factions within Law and Justice (PiS) remain high. However, some politicians have also called for dialogue and cooperation.
“I encourage everyone to engage in dialogue. The departure of Prime Minister Morawiecki’s faction from Law and Justice (PiS) is not good news, but that does not mean we should now attack one another. The real enemy is elsewhere. A year from now, the entire right wing will stand shoulder to shoulder to take Poland back from Tusk,”said Kazimierz Smoliński, an MP from the Pomeranian region.
Daniel Obajtek also appealed for restraint.
“Dear Colleagues, everyone is following their own path, and each of us should work to expand our own electorate. Let us not fight among ourselves, because our enemy – and the enemy of our country – is Donald Tusk. I encourage everyone to remain calm and continue grassroots work for the good of Poland’s future,” he wrote.
