Law and Justice (PiS) MP Sebastian Kaleta is warning of dangerous practices in a judiciary under the control of Waldemar Żurek. In his view, individuals associated with the Minister of Justice are carrying out Donald Tusk’s political vendetta against the right, employing methods characteristic of authoritarian systems.
Hand-picking of judges
Sebastian Kaleta published a video on social media in which he points to a series of scandalous actions undertaken by circles linked to Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek. As the PiS MP emphasizes, in politically sensitive cases, judges are being hand-picked, while the prosecution focuses exclusively on analyzing statements made by opposition politicians.
According to MP Kaleta, in one of the cases, after a judge had been removed from adjudicating, no random draw was conducted to select a new panel. Instead, a judge was appointed manually.
“Another judge was not drawn. A judge was hand-picked to hear the case again,”
says Sebastian Kaleta.
The PiS MP notes that the appointed judge had previously engaged publicly on the side of politicians from the current governing camp, including by signing letters from judicial circles calling for intervention by EU institutions in Poland during the period of United Right rule.
