National Bank of Poland on Financing Poland’s Defense Needs

Prof. Adam Glapiński, President of the National Bank of Poland, spoke after a meeting with the President of the Republic of Poland, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of National Defence regarding possible ways to finance the country’s growing military needs.

The meeting focused on potential financial mechanisms that could support the rapid expansion of Poland’s armed forces in the coming years. After leaving the talks, Glapiński stressed the apolitical nature of the central bank and outlined the institution’s readiness to support the government within the limits of the law.

“During the meeting I emphasized that the NBP is an apolitical institution and does not participate in any political disputes. I presented specific actions of the NBP that are feasible and compliant with the law and declared full readiness to undertake them, which was met with the President’s approval,” said Glapiński.

According to the head of the central bank, the policies implemented by the NBP in previous years have created financial conditions that could now allow significant support for the state’s defense spending.

“Thanks to the prudent, preventive, and well-judged policy of the NBP in recent years, it is now possible to implement a project that will provide tens of billions of zlotys annually over the next several years for the Polish government to finance the rapid construction of a strong Polish army,” he stated.

Glapiński added that such a solution is possible because the central bank has generated and accumulated the necessary financial resources.

“This is possible because the NBP has earned and accumulated funds appropriate for this purpose. Tomorrow I will present the details to all interested Poles,” the President of the National Bank of Poland announced.
