NATO will maintain even greater vigilance with the deployment of new, multi-domain assets in the Baltic Sea region, the North Atlantic Alliance announced on Saturday. This is a response to a series of Russian provocations in the air.
This will take place as part of the ongoing NATO mission “Baltic Sentry,” launched in January of this year. At the time, it was a reaction to damage to electrical cables, telecommunications lines, and a gas pipeline on the seabed of the Baltic Sea.
Yesterday’s statement is a direct response to the appearance of several drones over Denmark’s air force base in Karup, located on the Jutland Peninsula. As previously reported, the aircraft entered Danish airspace during the night from Friday to Saturday. Commenting on the incident, the country’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, described it as a “hybrid attack.”
Recently, the Neptune Strike exercises also took place in the North Sea. The maneuvers involved the participation of the largest and most technologically advanced U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald Ford.
