Nawrocki After Talks with Trump in Alaska: “The War Could End in Two Ways”

“It is in our well-understood interest that the war should end, that the war triggered by the Russian Federation can finally be concluded on the most just conditions possible, acceptable to both sides. (…) We are not certain in which direction these talks will go, what their final outcome will be, but since we all want an end to the war, it may end in two ways – either with the capitulation of one side, for us the most important would be the defeat of the Russian Federation, but the second solution is negotiations,” said today the head of the Bureau of International Policy (BPM) at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Marcin Przydacz.

The European Commission (EC) reported today that Donald Trump delivered a report on his talks with the Russian war criminal to European leaders, among them President Karol Nawrocki. This was confirmed on social media by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

“This morning, before 7:00 a.m. Polish time, such a phone call took place, in line with earlier arrangements. Two days ago, a teleconference was also held in this format, organized by the American side with key European allies. At that time, it was agreed that right after the talks in Alaska, Trump would once again call European allies to share his impressions, arrangements, and information, so that the transatlantic dialogue could be recognized as active,” said Przydacz during a press briefing.

The conversation included, apart from Donald Trump, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, President of Poland Karol Nawrocki, President of Finland Alexander Stubb, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“It was quite a long conversation during which President Donald Trump presented his findings so far. Naturally, it was not a public conversation, so I will not go into details. What I can say is the position presented by the Polish side through President Karol Nawrocki,” Przydacz told journalists.

“First of all, we recognize that it is in our well-understood interest that the war should end, that the war triggered by the Russian Federation can finally be concluded on the most just conditions possible, acceptable to both sides. On the one hand by the attacked Ukraine, on the other – in order to speak of any agreement, the aggressor, the Russian Federation, must also accept this agreement, otherwise it will be difficult to speak of any lasting peace,” he added.

He conveyed that “in Poland, we consider it of certain value” that peace talks have begun and that this matter is under discussion.

“Of course, we are not certain in which direction these talks will go, what their final outcome will be, but since we all want an end to the war, it may end in two ways – either with the capitulation of one side, for us the most important would be the defeat of the Russian Federation, but the second solution is negotiations. Such negotiations were held yesterday and will probably continue for some time, as these talks did not turn out to be conclusive, no firm arrangements were made in this regard,” Przydacz assessed.

The head of BPM pointed out that “Poland is not only observing the talks, but also actively participating in them through its direct contacts with the American side as well as arrangements on the European front.”

“What is important for the President, and what was voiced in this conversation, is a certain assessment of Russian policy, especially as pursued by Putin and others. Other voices were also raised in this conversation, pointing out that Putin is a man whose words must be approached with deep distrust and caution. In other words – many times over the past years Putin has said one thing and acted differently, and this must be kept in mind during negotiations,” reminded Marcin Przydacz.

Nothing about us without us

He indicated that President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki, “having the historical awareness of what happened in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in the past century, believes – and this was made very clear – that all arrangements concerning Ukraine must take the form of Ukraine’s participation in these talks.”
