Nawrocki to Host Baltic and Nordic Leaders in Warsaw Ahead of Trump Talks

On Thursday, at the invitation of President Karol Nawrocki, leaders of regional states will arrive in Warsaw. These include Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Estonian President Alar Karis, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The information was provided by the Head of the International Policy Bureau, Marcin Przydacz, who emphasized that the meeting will concern the September talks between the Polish president and U.S. leader Donald Trump.

As reported by the portal Niezalezna.pl, on Tuesday, President Karol Nawrocki spoke with Finnish President Alexander Stubb. The conversation was part of the consultations preceding Nawrocki’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. It turns out that already this week, leaders of other countries in the region will personally appear in Warsaw.

“On Thursday, there will be a very important, large meeting. At the invitation of President Karol Nawrocki, the presidents of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the prime minister of Denmark will come. They are our key allies in the region, within NATO,” said Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau, on Polsat News, earlier announcing that on Friday, the Polish president will also speak with the president of Moldova.

He stated that Thursday’s talks will cover Eastern policy, security policy, the situation in Ukraine, and U.S.-Ukraine consultations.

Asked whether the meeting would result in developing a common position that the president would take to the United States, he replied that “the Baltic and northern dimension has, and already does have, great importance for the president.” He continued: “The situation has changed over the past two years. Sweden and Finland have joined NATO, which makes the Baltic Sea an important subject in security policy discussions, and Russia also has access to the Baltic.”

“The discussion will focus on security policy, on what can be said in the United States as a common voice, and what should be pursued in Washington. The president will fly to Washington in a few days. He wants to be the voice of the region, but first wants to listen to the region so that, let’s say, as its leader, he can go with an agreed position on Russia. We all know what policy we pursue, but a reinforced voice is certainly important,”

he said.

He added that for the United States, Poland, as the region’s leader, has been an important partner. “Poland is strong in the region, and we want to make use of that strength,” he declared.
