The Polish Armament Agency (AU) assured on Sunday that negotiations regarding the production of K2 tanks in Poland are ongoing. This statement came in response to concerns raised by former Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, who claimed that plans for K2 tank production in Poland had been suspended by South Korean authorities.
Concerns Over Suspension
Błaszczak, who served as defense minister under the Law and Justice (PiS) government, took to social media platform X, citing a suspension of K2 tank production in Poland. He also referenced delays in acquiring other key military equipment, including K9 howitzers and FA/50 jets, accusing the government of undermining Poland’s defense capabilities.
Błaszczak’s claims were further backed by a report from the Financial Times, which quoted South Korea’s Deputy Defense Minister Sung Il. According to Il, the production plan was put on hold due to the need for modernization of Poland’s assembly plants and the availability of spare parts.
Armament Agency’s Response
In response to these claims, the AU firmly denied the suspension reports, emphasizing that negotiations, including on K2 tanks, are still ongoing. The agency stressed that spreading such unverified information could damage ongoing talks.
