According to analyses by the Bertelsmann Institute, at a price of €180 per ton of CO2, some Polish families could end up paying more than €1,600 extra per year for heating with fossil fuels.
Our region will suffer
The planned introduction of ETS2 for the buildings and transport sectors from 2028 will change heating costs for around 100 million households across the Union, and a new study indicates that in parts of Central and Eastern Europe, heating costs will rise significantly.
The Bertelsmann Institute points out that in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and other Eastern European countries, decarbonization of the buildings sector is less advanced, which would make the introduction of ETS2 have a much greater impact. It turns out that at a rate of €60 per ton of CO2, average heating costs in these countries would increase by approximately €100-€400 per household per year.
In an extreme case, according to the Bertelsmann Institute, the additional annual costs in central Poland could amount to around €1,600, which is over PLN 6,700.
