New Ideas to Block Nawrocki’s Swearing-In. “Marshal Hołownia Has a Crucial Role Here”

“We invite everyone who can be in Warsaw on August 6 to stand with President Karol Nawrocki-to show their support, but also their determination to stand firmly behind a legally elected president. The other matter concerns various antics of the so-called ‘Giertychism.’ We’re in such an absurd situation that a responsible, pro-state decision by Hołownia is being treated as something extraordinary,” said PiS MP Radosław Fogiel on the “Michał #Rachoń” program on TV Republika.

Karol Nawrocki to Be Sworn In on August 6

On July 7, Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia signed the decision to convene the National Assembly for the purpose of swearing in the newly elected President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. According to this decision, the Assembly will convene on August 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sejm plenary hall.

For several days, the government delayed publishing the official document in the Monitor Polski, which drew sharp criticism from the opposition. Media outlets also reported on ideas circulating among politicians of the December 13 coalition to file a motion for a recess during the Assembly, vote on it, and then refuse to return to the chamber. There was also speculation that, since the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs declared the elections valid—despite the EU Court of Justice not recognizing it as a legitimate court-the electoral process may not be formally completed.

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński urged Poles to gather in front of the Sejm on August 6. “They’re still scheming, and no one knows what might happen at the last moment. A strong public presence outside the Sejm is extremely important. That’s our task for now-it’s coming up very soon.”

These reports were commented on by PiS MP Radosław Fogiel on the “Michał #Rachoń” program on TV Republika.

“We invite everyone who can be in Warsaw on August 6 to stand with President Karol Nawrocki-to show their support, but also their determination to stand firmly behind a legally elected president. The other issue is the various antics of ‘Giertychism.’ The Speaker of the Sejm is convening the National Assembly as required by the Constitution,” he said.

He added, “We are in such a bizarre situation that a responsible, pro-state decision by Hołownia is now seen as extraordinary.”

Asked about the likelihood of Nawrocki’s swearing-in being blocked, he responded, “I’m rather optimistic. This is a matter of formal and procedural rules, and I don’t think formal motions are even allowed during the National Assembly.”

“There is an important role here for the Speaker, who presides over the Assembly. I hope Szymon Hołownia will continue to demonstrate this pro-state attitude,” he concluded.
