New Minister Kierwiński Announces Crackdown on the Border Defence Movement: “There Will Be No Step Back, We Are Moving Forward”

The new Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, has already announced a purge of the borders from members of the Border Defence Movement. He referred to the patriots guarding Poland against migrants sent from Germany as “cynical impostors.” “There will be no step back. We are moving forward,” he added.

On Thursday, during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Andrzej Duda officially enacted changes to the composition of the Council of Ministers. The new cabinet members, following Wednesday’s reshuffle, were presented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The position of Interior Minister was entrusted to Marcin Kierwiński, who replaced Tomasz Siemoniak.

Kierwiński was the first head of the Ministry of the Interior in Donald Tusk’s government, appointed in 2023. He stepped down in May 2024 to run in the European Parliament elections.
In September 2024, Kierwiński was appointed Minister for Flood Recovery and resigned from his MEP mandate.

Now, he has received a new assignment; once again, a task that Prime Minister Tusk deeply prioritises. In his first statement as the new minister, Kierwiński revealed that his goal would be to “restore order” regarding the Border Defence Movement.

“I thank the Prime Minister for his trust. I will not betray the confidence of those who seek an apolitical, effective police force, and borders that are safe and free from illegal migrants and cynical impostors. There will be no step back. We are moving forward. Security, order, and the state,” he wrote on X.
