Polish company NEWAG’s GRIFFIN electric locomotive for PKP INTERCITY reaches 240 km/h, part of a 15-unit delivery contract.
In a historic achievement, the first Polish multisystem electric locomotive, GRIFFIN, produced by NEWAG S.A. for PKP INTERCITY, broke speed records by reaching an astounding 240 km/h during the night of October 19-20, 2023.
Under a contract signed in the last quarter of 2021 with PKP Intercity, NEWAG will supply 15 new multisystem electric locomotives, GRIFFIN E4MSUa, capable of a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The total value of this contract amounts to 387 million PLN gross.
Deliveries are set to commence next year, immediately following the receipt of the necessary documents permitting operation in Poland. Subsequently, the locomotives will undergo the homologation process in five other countries: Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
Zbigniew Konieczek, the President of the NEWAG S.A. Board, expressed his confidence in continuing to pursue further achievements and setting new standards in the railway industry. This record-breaking success is just one milestone in their journey.
