Obajtek Faces Questioning Today: “I Have Nothing to Blame Myself For, Let Kierwiński Stop Talking Nonsense”

“I don’t know what to expect. I’m mentally prepared for anything. I have nothing to blame myself for. I have no intention of trembling before them. I’ve always tried to be a courageous person,” said PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek on TV Republika. The politician is to be questioned today by Prosecutor Żurek’s office.

Daniel Obajtek to be questioned today

Former president of Orlen and current PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek lost his immunity in the European Parliament, which opened the way for the Polish prosecutor’s office to bring charges against him. The case concerns two contracts for detective services concluded by Orlen during his presidency. The politician is to be questioned today at the headquarters of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw. A demonstration in his defense is scheduled to take place outside the building from 11:30 a.m. Before flying from Brussels to Warsaw, the PiS MEP gave an interview to TV Republika.

When asked whether the authorities might attempt to bring him to the prosecutor’s office by force, he replied that “this state today is a bandit state.”

“I don’t know what to expect. I’m mentally prepared for anything. I have nothing to blame myself for. I have no intention of trembling before them. I’ve always tried to be a courageous person, and I even said in one interview that when I was a child, they used to scare me with Baba Yaga, and now they try to scare me with Donald Tusk. I don’t know which is more frightening – Baba Yaga or Donald Tusk. I’m a brave person. Life will write the next chapter. This crew wants to cover up everything – every issue happening in the country,” he stated.

The PiS MEP also commented on the allegations made by Prosecutor Żurek’s office, which concern the alleged hiring of a detective agency for private purposes.

“This is nonsense fed to the public. At the time, we were carrying out the most strategic processes for the state – cutting off Russian oil and gas, taking over Lotos, dealing with data leaks from the company, wiretaps in my office, and a massive attack funded by various firms engaged in black PR. They wanted to cause the removal of statutory bodies and prevent the merger process from happening. You know, when merging, you break ties with intermediaries. The attack was so massive that the security department concluded we needed to investigate the cause. It was commissioned in the standard way. International corporations use detective agencies – even the European Parliament does. It was a normal practice. Later, a report was produced and submitted to law enforcement authorities. No one used that report for political purposes. This whole situation is blown out of proportion,” said Obajtek.

He also responded to online comments from Marcin Kierwiński directed against him.

“Let Mr. Kierwiński use fewer substances and stop talking nonsense about teeth and other things. I had the same contract as all Orlen presidents and most company executives. Medical services were part of the contract. Let Mr. Kierwiński stop with this primitive form of messaging,” he said.

“They want to cover up the collapse of the healthcare system”

Obajtek reminded that the December 13 coalition government wants “to cover up the collapse of the healthcare system – there’s no money, and now no one protests that oncology lacks funds.”

“No one says that a bankrupt television should return that money and allocate it to children’s oncology. No one talks about rising unemployment. No decisions are being made; instead, they’re chasing people who built a strong economy, the same economy that the other side now boasts about. They point to our gas and oil independence, to our investments, which they had nothing to do with,” he emphasized.

Obajtek also referred to the fact that under the new management, Orlen’s value increased by PLN 40 billion.

“This current management can say such things only to people who lack reason. I’d like people to analyze the facts. After the war and COVID periods, all companies in the region saw an increase in capitalization – that’s a normal mechanism. Additionally, they paid out over PLN 6 billion in dividends. They earned PLN 1 billion in 2024 but paid PLN 6 billion. They gave shareholders more than what the bank interest rates were. On top of that, we built this company through mergers. Thanks to those mergers and investments, the company is now worth PLN 100 billion. It’s not because of their decisions,” he declared.
