Okęcie Airport Tightens Screening of Brussels Arrivals Amid Hunt for Zbigniew Ziobro

Passengers arriving in recent days on flights from Brussels to Warsaw are frequently being checked by security services. The spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Administration claims these are “routine checks,” yet such checks were not previously carried out with this frequency. She adds: “Searching for Zbigniew Z. is the duty of the state,” making it clear that the situation is connected to Zbigniew Ziobro, who lists one of his correspondence addresses in the Belgian capital.

Former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro is wanted by the prosecution service subordinated to Waldemar Żurek in connection with the Justice Fund case. Catching Ziobro is a key goal of the current governing coalition, which approved the lifting of his immunity, his detention, and the arrest of the PiS MP.

“Warsaw Okęcie. A flight from Brussels is just landing, and on the jet bridge, a small show of force is waiting for the passengers. Tusk’s police are checking the IDs of every passenger – from MEPs to confused tourists. A real red carpet of democracy. Meanwhile, Ziobro appears on TVN moments earlier. Hey, gentlemen from Tusk’s services – maybe you don’t watch TV Republika, but surely each of you has TVN set as channel one. So what, someone sent you a bogus tip?” wrote an internet user under the pseudonym Jack Strong.

This was quickly confirmed by Jacek Kurski, who often travels on the Brussels-Warsaw route himself.

“Passengers disembarking an hour ago from Brussels Airlines flight SN 2555 from Brussels to Warsaw had their documents checked in the jet bridge at Okęcie. No reason for the check was given. Women were not checked. They were looking for a man. Just a cheerful little tidbit,” writes Jacek Kurski.

“Interesting – the same thing happened to me a few days ago. Only men. A check, flight from Brussels. This has never happened before,” adds MEP Jacek Ozdoba.

Interestingly, the spokesperson of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Karolina Gałecka, commented on the matter. “The control at Okęcie is a routine activity aimed at ensuring passenger safety. Linking it to a specific politician is an attempt to politicize the work of uniformed services. The search for Zbigniew Z. is the state’s duty. Suggesting that the services acted on a false ‘tip-off’ is absurd and an attempt to ridicule law enforcement. The real question is why a politician wanted by law enforcement, who claims he has nothing on his conscience, appears on television instead of cooperating with the justice system,” she wrote.
